On June 27, 1954, the USSR's Obninsk Nuclear Power Plant became the world's first nuclear power plant at Obninsk, Russia, the nuclear power plant APS-1 with a net electrical output of 5 MW was connected to the power grid, that generated electricity for commercial use.
